Last year, I was approached by TechLife magazine to write about cameras and photography. The magazine had recently been rebranded from Australian PC User to TechLife.

I’d been brought on board to provide a new way of delivering articles about photography and cameras – from someone who’s a pro photographer, rather than a general tech geek who writes about everything.

My first major assignment was to review the Samsung Galaxy Camera. A hybrid between a compact camera and a smart phone – without the telephone capabilities.

Samsung had employed their PR company Edelman to organise a launch/press day. The guys at Edelman had organised lunch at Jonah’s up at Whale Beach (via a sea plane), a tour around Sydney on an old London double decker bus, and then dinner at Mr Wong (Justin Hemmes’ new restaurant).

In some ways, you could say that Samsung were trying to buy our positive reviews. However, as someone with the power to influence thousands of people’s purchases, I had to give an honest opinion of the camera.

The article was published in the Feb-13 issue of TechLife magazine and was my first double page writing feature. Hopefully there will be many more to come with TechLife.

I also did a video which went into the magazine, so check it out.
